Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is composed of 5 members:

Gérard Soula, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Gérard Soula has a strong track record in the innovation in the field of biotechnologies. He founded Flamel Technologies, a biotech company based in Lyon for which he was the CEO for 15 years. Under his leadership, the company carried out an IPO and a secondary offering on NASDAQ.
Gérard was previously Director of scientific research at Rhone Poulenc and obtained the Rhone Poulenc Prize in Innovation for his invention of a new type of catalyst, based on molecular self-assembly. More recently, he received the Chaptal prize for his contributions in the development of pharmaceutical innovations.
He is the co-author of 123 patents.

Olivier Soula, VP, Research & Development Director
Olivier Soula worked for 8 years at Flamel Technologies. His last position was Director of the Nanotechnologies department. He was in charge of a team dedicated to innovation of protein delivery systems, in partnerships with major pharmaceutical companies. He was also responsible for the development and the implementation of the IT System. Olivier is the author of 31 patents relating to protein delivery. Olivier holds a PhD in polymer science and an MBA from IAE, Lyon.

Jean Deleage, Private Investor
Jean Deleage began his venture capital career in 1971 in Paris, France with Sofinnova and started its very successful American subsidiary, Sofinnova, Inc. in 1976 in San Francisco. In 1979, he formed Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co., with Craig Burr and William Egan. During the 1980s and 1990s, BEDCO was a prominent, diversified venture firm. He co-founded Alta in 1996. Jean is an industry leader in biotechnology; he had the vision to start the Alta BioPharma family of funds, one of the very first venture capital initiatives to fund later stage life sciences companies. He was an early investor in many of the leading companies in the field today, including Cephalon, Chiron and Genentech.
Jean holds a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the École Supérieure d’Electricité and a Ph.D. in Economics from the Sorbonne. In 1993, Jean was awarded the Legion of Honor by the French government in recognition of his career accomplishments.

Thierry Laugel, Investment Partner at AGF Private Equity
Thierry Laugel joined AGF Private Equity in 2006. From 1998 to 2006, Thierry was a managing director of PharmaVent Partners and a general partner at CDC Entreprises Innovation. He has invested in more than ten Biotech companies in Europe and in the US, and has been or still is a Director in most of them.
Previously he was head of pharmaceutical development projects at Flamel Technologies. He started his career in 1992 in the Fournier Group in Japan, as coordinator of R&D programs.
Thierry holds a Pharm D, a PhD in pharmacology, and an MBA from INSEAD.

Olivier Martinez, Investment Partner at Bioam Gestion
From 1992 to 1997, Olivier Martinez pursued his doctoral studies in cell biology in Paris (first at the Pasteur Institute and then at the Curie Institute). After undergoing management training, he joined Gemini Consulting's Life Science group and spent two years working exclusively on pharmaceutical and healthcare projects. He joined Bioam in 2000 as Associate and became Investment Partner in 2004. Olivier is an alumnus of the Ecole Normale Supérieure. He holds a PhD in Cell Biology from the University of Paris XI and a diploma from the Collège des Ingénieurs.
