Growth factors are essential for tissue regeneration. Two of them, Platelet Derived Growth Factor BB (PDGF-BB) and Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMPs), are already approved respectively for wound healing and bone repair.

However, the efficacy of these growth factors is limited for several reasons: low solubility, diffusion from the site of administration, enzymatic degradation and/or inhibition.
